In the past, if exercise and dieting could not get rid of stubborn fat bulges, many patients prefered liposuction, an invasive surgical treatment. Or, they turned to radio frequency devices or infrared technology, but these devices provided limited improvement. With innovations in technology, patients can now reduce unwanted fat bulges and enjoy permanent decrease in fat cells during a non-invasive, non-surgical method called CoolSculpting which offers dramatic results.
Developed by ZELTIQ Aesthetics, Inc., CoolSculpting can reduce areas which can be hard to reach with dieting and exercise: love handles, lower belly fat rolls, upper belly fat, muffin top, under bra fat and back fat. It’s a remarkably effective technique that increases the contour in the body.
How is it possible? The FDA-cleared CoolSculpting works through a revolutionary technology called cryolipolysis. During cryolipolysis, literally meaning “cold induced fat destruction,” fat cells are cooled to a temperature that causes those to be eliminated. The procedure is very safe: the temperature needed to destroy fat cells is more than what can damage skin, muscle and nerves. With CoolSculpting, there is not any injury to the nearby structures.
Through the procedure, the physician applies a skin protecting gel pad towards the skin, and a CoolSculpting applicator is positioned on the desired treatment area. The unit draws the fat bulge in, and cools down the fat to induce cryolipolysis, continuously monitoring the temperature and adjusting it as a needed.
Unlike liposuction, in which the fat cells are suctioned from the body, the CoolSculpting treatment causes our bodies to naturally get rid of the fat cells through the lymphatic drainage system. The cells are then slowly excreted from the body over a duration of the following several months.
With CoolSculpting, therapy for each fat bulge typically takes 1 hour to do. Love handles may take 2 to 4 hours of treatment; the lower abdomen usually takes about 60 minutes employing a special larger applicator. However, each case is unique the patient/physician should discuss this ahead of the procedure.
Instead of liposuction, no anesthesia is necessary for CoolSculpting. Throughout the procedure, patients can even use their telephone or laptop, read a book or watch a movie. The only discomfort patients may feel while undergoing CoolSculpting is a sensation of somebody pinching or squeezing the fat once the device is first applied to your skin layer. This usually goes away within the first 5 minutes of the procedure.
CoolSculpting can be practiced inside the convenience of a physician’s office. Patients go home soon after the process and can resume regular activities; many happen to be recognized to work out or do yoga exactly the same day. There may be some mild discomfort in the area of treatment; numbness is generally present afterward and can take several weeks to solve. Extra Strength Tylenol® can be used but it’s advised to avoid taking anti-inflammatory agents for the first two months following the procedure.
Many patients start noticing results the moment 3 weeks right after the CoolSculpting procedure. Most of the results will be seen at about 2 months after CoolSculpting is conducted; improvement may continue after 3 months.
Typically, your skin layer is elastic enough to contract following the treatment. However, it’s important to know that when loose skin is the main cause of the bulge, then CoolSculpting alone will not treat the condition – a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck may be needed.
Many patients ask if you have a need to start out a new diet or exercise routine after CoolSculpting. There is not. It’s recommended that patients maintain the same program they did ahead of the procedure to ixpetw how much they weigh.
Most patients need only one CoolSculpting treatment; however, repeat treatments can be practiced after 90 days if additional lowering of the fat bulges is desired. Coolsculpting Before and After Photos show the outcomes of coolsculpting are impressive and undeniable.
