6 Thoughts: Dustin Keller Injury

6 Thoughts: Dustin Keller Injury

Dustin Keller’s season ended before the regular season ever got started when D.J. Swearinger chose not to hit Keller up high, but go low. Here are my thoughts on the injury.

1. D.J. Swearinger’s hit was legal, but most importantly it wasn’t dirty.

2. Swearinger is 6′ 210 lbs. and Keller is 6’2″ 250 lbs. There’s no way Swearinger was going to hit Keller up high. Especially after Swearinger got three unsportsmanlike conducts penalties for targeting defenseless receivers in college last year.

3. Keller’s injury is more than just an ACL, MCL, PCL and dislocated knee. He suffered nerve damage which could be career threatening.

4. Why the hell was he playing deep into the 2nd quarter in a preseason game?

5. Keller, who was a free agent last season, gambled on himself when he couldn’t get a long term deal. He signed a one year deal this season for 4.25 million with 2.25 guaranteed. With this injury, Keller’s long term contract is probably not going to happen. Not cool.

6. With the NFL cracking down on helmet to helmet contact, targeting and hitting defenseless receivers, a lot more defenders will be hitting low, and more injuries like this are going to happen. Concussions will go down and ACL injuries will go up.
