Checkout my quick hits and jukes from this weekend’s football action.
College
The BCS National Championship game was last Monday. In the first game, it was clear that Bama was the better team and had they made their field goals they would have won the game. Since it’s college football, you figure a team’s chances of winning two games against the same team are tough. Since the Crimson Tide “won” the first game, I figured LSU would actually win this game. I was wrong, very wrong.
The Tigers had no passion whatsoever. Les Miles made no adjustments and Jordan Jefferson was exposed as was Tyrann Mathieu.
Nick Saban is the best coach in America hands down. It will interesting to see what five star recruit and Alabama backup QB, Phillip Sims does because AJ McCarron looks like he’s going to be the starting QB for the next two seasons.
NFL
The Saints vs. 49ers game was The Game of the Tight End. Awesome performances by Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis. We must still give Alex Smith his credit. Is he elite? Not sure yet…but what he did on Saturday was very Montana-esque. Take your 49er glasses off though….you realize the Saints played their worst game of the year and if they turn the ball over half the times that they actually did (5) that they win this game. Great game by the 49ers, but they got a gift.
You should have no problem blaming the Saints loss on the defense of Roman Harper. Terrible play all game long. He missed a tackle on Vernon Davis in the game winning drive and was late reacting on the game winning touchdown play.
Man…..what Tom Brady did to the Broncos was criminal. You guys do realize the Patriots had one of the worse defenses in the league and Tim Tebow only put up 10 points against them.
You can’t help but think that if Matt Schaub was playing against the Ravens that the Texans would have won the game and still be playing in the playoffs. T.J. Yates was simply forcing every throw he could to Andre Johnson.
Eli Manning, Tom Coughlin…bravo, you two are very underrated. The Giants won and it wasn’t on the strength of their defensive line, it was their offensive line giving Eli more time to throw than Moses spent in the wilderness.
I don’t care what you say, but the better team did not win last night. The Packers picked their wrong game to play their worst game. The Giants defensive line didn’t get their normal push and Aaron Rodgers was running at will. The Packers playoff bye week kicked them in the ass and so did 6 dropped passes.
Also, I noticed Charles Woodson’s age for the first since he’s rejuvenated his career in Lambeau. When Hakeem Nicks went 66 yards, Woodson had the angle on him, but he slowed up. I couldn’t tell if he just didn’t have the juice to get there to tackle Nicks or gave up too early. His lack of speed was confirmed when Ahamad Bradshaw bounced to the outside and Woodson had a better angle on him than he did Nicks and didn’t even come close to making the tackle.
That’s all I got,
