Wade Davis Talks About Being Gay In the NFL

Homosexuality and the NFL don’t mix. And if it does, it’s certainly not talked about openly. Former NFL player, Wade Davis, 34, came out last year — eight years after he last finished playing 2004. Davis played for the Titans, Seahawks and Redskins from 200 – 2004.

He told OutSports last year that he dropped $1,500 at the strip club so his teammates would think he’s straight. “You just want to be one of the guys, and you don’t want to lose that sense of family,” Davis told OutSports. “Your biggest fear is that you’ll lose that camaraderie and family. I think about how close I was with [Titans teammates] Jevon [Kearse] and Samari [Rolle]. It’s not like they’d like me less, it’s that they have to protect their own brand.”

Davis sat down with SB Nation’s Amy K. Nelson on Tuesday to explain the difficulties he faced being a closet homosexual in the NFL. Check out the video below called “Gay In the NFL: A Conversation with Wade Davis.”
