I had the pleasure of writing this for The Shadow League
Stop blindly co-signing these dudes and open your eyes.
There are two games left before we find out who is playing in the Super Bowl. The only thing everyone is talking about is the last leg of the Ray Lewis Tour with Ray Rice and Joe Flacco as the opening guest. Before I make this statement, take your emotions out of it, Ray Lewis is one of the most overrated players playing this weekend. He’s not the only one, find out who else is overrated and why.
5. Aldon Smith
Aldon Smith is dope, you’re not second in the NFL in sacks with 19.5 and not known as the second coming of Jevon Kearse. Smith’s play has been declining in recent weeks, and he’s not hurt, but his boy Justin Smith has been missing. Justin Smith plays on the inside at defensive end in a 3-4 system that allows him to take on more offensive lineman leaving Aldon Smith on the outside in one on one situations with helpless tackles and running backs. Aldon gets all the glory and hopefully Justin gets more than a simple “thank you dogg” from Aldon. It’s what’s on the inside that counts, and Justin and Aldon prove that.
4. Wes Welker
Wes Welker has caught more balls than Colorado Rockies catcher, Ramon Hernandez. It’s not all Hernandez’s fault that his pitching sucks, but you get what I mean. Allow yourself to experience the bliss known as temporary amnesia as I implore you to forget about Welker’s Super Bowl drop. With that said, if the ball gets near Welker — he’s catching it, but Wes is replaceable. There’s a reason the Patriots didn’t want to give him a long-term contract. We can name several slot wide receivers better than Welker: Victor Cruz, James Jones, Percy Harvin, etc. Wes Welker is a good WR playing for a great team.
