Save Us Barry, You’re Our Only Hope
I follow the Dallas Cowboys more closely than I follow any other team due to my fandom and I’m telling you now, the Dallas Cowboys prospects of winning a Super Bowl, don’t laugh it can happen, are tied directly to the fortunes of one Barry Michael Church.
Now I know a lot of you are wondering just who the heck Barry Church is, and  for good reason since he didn’t play much at all last season due to injury. There are a good 15 players who are definitively better on the Dallas Cowboys roster but that’s what makes football beautiful, sometimes where the talent is placed on the field is just as important as how much talent is out there. Barry Church is placed precisely where Jason Garrett needs him.
The offensive line gelling is going to be big for the Cowboys prospects of course but we’ve seen teams win it all despite middling blocking upfront and I think the team has taken good concrete steps to shore that weakness up. The biggest if for the ‘Boys is the defense staying healthy and Barry Church in particular. Because if he can stay healthy and play like he’s shown he’s capable of, the Dallas Cowboys defense will be a monster. He can cover, he can hit, and he can help direct traffic in the secondary. If he can stay healthy and maximizes his potential.
And if if’s were fifth’s we’d all be drunk right now.
But that’s what’s beautiful about fandom, particularly in these magical moments right before the season starts. Every single fan base has dreams of getting to glory despite holes on their rosters. We can believe because of the Barry Church’s of the world. The player in a key spot who is all potential and hasn’t blown a coverage, missed a block, whiffed on a tackle, dropped a sure touchdown, or even get called for a boneheaded penalty. Yet.
Yeah the Dallas Cowboys have a good shot at it all if Barry Church can stay healthy and play up to his potential.
