Is this Michigan’s return to the elite of college football? The Michigan Wolverines face the Virginia Tech Hokies tonight in the Sugar Bowl. Michigan shows up with an electrifying offense led by Denard “Shoelace” Robinson while Virginia Tech counters with one of the best running backs in the Frank Beamer era- David Wilson. Wilson and Robinson are the type of players that only need a crease to take the rock the distance. I really feel for Kansas State and Boise State because they deserved the BCS bid over Virginia Tech. On a side-note, I wonder how much better this breakout Michigan year would have been with suspended/redshirted WR Darryl Stonum on the field…
Frank Beamer, per usual, brings a strong special teams unit but Michigan actually has the advantage in this aspect of the game. Logan Thomas and David Wilson have been spectacular at times this year; however, Thomas has a tenancy to disappear from time to time. Brady Hoke is well on his way to building a very well rounded team, so if Logan Thomas goes under the radar look for Michigan to win this game. Entering the game with the nation’s 29th ranked “D” won’t hurt Michigan either. Look for an exciting game where two teams that have been up and down this season put a lot of points on the board. Michigan will use this game as a springboard for what should be a big-time season next year. My pick??? Meeeeeechigan 33 V-Tech 24 in a good one down in N’awlins.
