Happy New Year! Here are my quick hits and jukes from this past week of football….
College Football
Missouri is going to the SEC with their heads held high after a bowl win. Let’s see how long their confidence lasts once they play with the really big boys…
I didn’t watch a lick of the Western Michigan and Purdue in the Litte Caesars Bowl.
Louisville lost….but look out for them next year. They are young and explosive. They shall restore pride to the Big East conference.
David Amerson is the best cornerback in football hands down. Yes, better than the Honey Badger, Morris Claiborne, Cliff Harris and Janoris Jenkins. #Arguemebro
The Air Force and Toledo game was a struggle bowl for the ages because both teams weren’t great but even on talent and the game was won on the final possession. Can’t ask for anymore than that in struggle bowls.
As long as Texas starts David Ash, they will suck. They won their bowl game…but he’s just not good. Develop Case McCoy and flourish. What an awesome sack by Kenny Vaccaro in the Holiday Bowl.
Florida State was supposed to be back this year….I think next year should be the year. Word on the street is that it’s Notre Dame’s year next year also….I highly doubt it.
The Washington vs. Baylor game was a complete and total video game. More offense than an Arena football game. Defense was totally optional….but it was exciting and I did not turn the channel.
The Sooners won their bowl game with ease. Will Landry Jones come back or not? He definitely needs to stay in school one more year.
NFL
I’m really trying to figure out which game was more exciting…the Lions vs. Packers or the Washington Huskies vs. Baylor Bears game. Big ups to Matt Flynn…it was only one game, and I’m sure Detroit was lax since they had already made the playoffs. But Flynn is a free agent and I bet someone will reach for him and pay big bucks.
The Texans are literally limping into the playoffs. Geesh…now TJ Yates is hurt?
The Suck for Luck Sweepstakes goes to the Indianapolis Colts!
Before we blame everything on Mark Sanchez…the Jets were fifth in scoring offense in the AFC. I think we might need to look at Rex Ryan now folks. I need to get the full Santonio Holmes story before I make a comment.
Last week it was Adrian Peterson with a bad knee injury…this week it’s Brian Urlacher. Goodness. Man, I wish Jared Allen would have been able to break the sack record, he was 1 sack away from breaking the record. He actually had 3.5 sacks in yesterday’s game.
So the Patriots spotted the Bills 21 points and then beat them 49-21..that’s cold blooded man…simply cold blooded.
There are going to be hurt feelings in Green Bay when the Saints are representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.
Andy Dalton had a great year…but Cam Newton had a better year.
So, was I wrong about Marvin Lewis last year? He takes his team to the playoffs without Ocho and Carson Palmer. Guess I was…
Michael Vick had a career high in interceptions this year. He has to do better on the field and be a better leader. The team looked awesome yesterday. Expect big things from them next year if someone…anyone can be a leader on that team.
The 49ers were of course the biggest surprise team this season. The Rams were supposed to be the leader of the NFC West….I just hope Sam Bradford doesn’t become Jimmy Clausen.
Tavaris Jackson quietly stepped it up late in the year. It’ll be interesting to see who the Cardinals starting QB is next year, Kevin Kolb or John Skelton.
My Raiders blew a perfect opportunity to make it to the playoffs. Typical.
It’s not a matter of if or did….but when Raheem Morris will be fired and why his team quit on him this year after going 10-6 last year.
When are the Browns going to be good again? That’s all I want to know.
The Steelers are holding their breath as they await the results Rashad Mendenhall’s knee injury.
Tebow vs. Orton…goes to Orton only by default. The score was 7-3, so neither QB really did anything. But the Broncos are still going into the playoffs.
The Giants have the best front four in the league. Please argue for a better collective front four. Don’t bash Tony Romo…he’s the best 4th quarter QB…the numbers don’t lie. The Cowboys problem is their supposedly “new and improved Rob Ryan defense”. Cowboys need a new secondary asap!
That’s all I got,
Ricky Writer
