Monday Morning Cornerback: Week 2

College football was in it’s third week and it was pretty eh, but the NFL was in it’s second week and there were a ton of great games. Here are my quick hits and jukes from this weekend’s football action.

College Football

Oregon vs. Wyoming – Nope. Didn’t watch a lick of this game.

Southern Miss vs. Alabama – So is Blake Sims the “guy”? I still think Jacob Coker should have the job.

Tennessee vs. Oklahoma – I watched all of this game. Oklahoma is the most complete team in the country but they are certainly not the fastest. They’ve lost a lot of offensive speed. Tennessee is one year away from being a threat to teams’ national championship hopes. And oh yeah, Jalen Hurd is the third best back in the SEC. Todd Gurley and Derrick Henry are the only two backs with more juice. Yes….he’s better than T.J. Yeldon.

Georgia vs. South Carolina – Oh Georgia. I swear Mark Richt is college football’s version of teflon.

Rice vs. Texas A&M – Kenny Trill is no fluke. Manziel is gone and the Aggies’ offense has gotten better.

USC vs. Boston College – Technically this game was an upset, but it really wasn’t. USC had an emotional victory on the road last week over a top 25 team and rival in Stanford. Then the next week, they have to travel 6 hours across the country to play a unranked team. Sounds like a recipe for disaster…which is exactly what took place on Saturday.

UL Monroe vs. LSU – I’m not paying attention to LSU until October 4th when they play Auburn.

Purdue vs. Notre Dame – Notre Dame is scary and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they make it to the college football playoff.

UCLA vs. Texas – The Bruins traveled East two time zones, lost their starting QB and still found a way to win the game. Great road win. They still aren’t as good as advertised. Message to Charlie Strong, it’s got to get worse before it gets better.

LA Lafayette vs. Ole Miss – I’m tired of these SEC teams and their Charmin soft schedules.

Army vs. Stanford – Zzzzzzzzzz

Arizona State vs. Colorado – I was definitely more impressed with Colorado than I was with ASU. It’d be nice to see the Buffaloes back as one of the more dominant teams in college football.

East Carolina vs. Virginia Tech – This is a pattern for Virginia Tech. Beat a top 10 opponent, lose the next week. No really, it’s the fourth time in the last five home games after beating a ranked team.

UCF vs. Missouri – Finally, an SEC team plays an out of conference opponent that I’ve heard of.

Louisville vs. Virginia – The Cardinals jerseys looked dope, but the play on the field….nah.

Kent State vs. Ohio State – You’re supposed to beat Kent State by 66 points.

NFL

Steelers vs. Ravens – Amidst all the controversy last week, a win is exactly what the Ravens needed.

Dolphins vs. Bills – ……..Umm the Bills are pretty damn good. They beat a good Bears team last week and completely dominated a Dolphins team that beat the Pats last week.

Jaguars vs. Redskins – Damn RGIII, get well soon bro.

Cowboys vs. Titans – The Boys looked great yesterday. Jake Locker isn’t it man.

Cardinals vs. Giants – Bruh, the Giants were beat at home by 9 points….by a backup QB.

Patriots vs. Vikings – Once the Vikings lost their modern day Egil Skallagrimsson, they didn’t stand a chance against the 0-1 Patriots.

Saints vs. Browns – The Saints have lost two games in the final minutes by less than five points total. They’ve got to fix their defense. Brian Hoyer….you can stay for a while.

Falcons vs. Bengals – The Dirty Birds don’t have the same fight outside of the dome.

Lions vs. Panthers – Cam’s 2014 debut looked great. We’re only two games in, but Kelvin Benjamin is ahead of Sammy Watkins right now.

Rams vs. Buccaneers – I have a question. Why in the HELL is Mike Glennon NOT starting? Why….not? Also, you’ve got to be a terrible team to get beat by a third team QB.

Seahawks vs. Chargers – Philip Rivers is a bad man and did y’all see Antonio Gates in the DeLorean with one hand on the wheel and his seat leaning back yesterday.

Texans vs. Raiders – Textbook ball control football. Ryan Fitzpatrick goes 14-19….only 19 passes. Arian Foster runs the rock 28 times. 16 point win on the road.

Jets vs. Packers – The Jets had the lead. How did they lose it? The Packers are in trouble, because if that was any team other than the Jets they’d be 0-2.

Chiefs vs. Broncos – Why in the hell was the line +12.5 points? This is the NFL not college.

Bears vs. 49ers – The 49ers beat themselves with too many turnovers and too many penalties.
