ESPN analyst and advocate for paying college players, Jay Bilas, aired out the NCAA yesterday on Twitter. Someone sent him a picture showing a Johnny Manziel football jersey on ShopNCAASports.com. The back of the #2 Texas A&M jersey said “Football”.
Connect the dots with me folks….#2 Texas A&M jersey. Who wears #2? Johnny Manziel. What’s his nickname? Johnny Football. What goes on the back of a football jersey? The last name. So the #2 Texas A&M jersey with the last name Football is….Johnny Manziel.
Disgusting. The NCAA should be ashamed of itself. To make matters worse, the search bar on ShopNCAASports.com allows you to search player’s last names. Type in Manziel, Clowney, Boyd and Johnny Manziel, Jadeveon Clowney and Tahj Boyd all come up. Whether you believe in paying players or not, you can’t deny that the NCAA isn’t making money of these athletes’ likenesses.
Since Bilas’ rant yesterday, the NCAA has removed the search bar functionality from ShopNCAASports.com. Hey NCAA…your hypocrisy is showing. You might want to cover that up.
