“While the NFL has reportedly narrowed its list of possible acts for this year’s Super Bowl halftime performance to Coldplay, Rihanna, and Katy Perry, the league is also apparently considering another move–charging the artist to perform. With the hefty leverage of 115 million people watching, the NFL has reportedly asked if each performer would cough up some cash if chosen. The NFL asked them if they’d be “willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution.” According to the report, all three artists have said no so far.” via The Daily Beast
Here are my thoughts.
1. Sure the heavyweights so far have said no, but who’s to say someone that’s maybe an A- star or even B+ star wouldn’t one day say yes.
2. It’s not too bad of an idea if you have an album coming out around Super Bowl time.
3. The NFL sure does have some balls, I’ll say that much. And it continues to be the most well run American sports organization.
4. Beyonce recently performed at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show. She’s sponsored by Pepsi. With all the money Pepsi paid in advertising, it’s easy to think that in the future a brand who wants big time advertising throw in one of their artist to perform during halftime if it can be purchased.
5. Hmm….who are the Beats by Dre musicians? You don’t think Apple, who owns the headphone company, wouldn’t want to have some type of control over 15 minutes of the most watched television event in America?
6. I’ll say it again. The NFL has balls and is pretty damn smart if you ask me.
